Rarely Used but Connected Battery-What % charge is optimal?

I primarily use my T43p with the adapter and only rarely use battery power (i.e. during boot up as I'm trying to find a socket, etc.). With this usage pattern, should I keep the % charge between 40 -50%? Or should I keep it around 80%, thereby only using the 1st cell of the battery? Thanks in advance.

Keeping an Li-ion battery at about 40% charge in a cool place is optimal from what I've read. I just keep mine in a desk drawer when my machine is docked.

They're only designed for so many charges and discharges and also have a shelf life even if not used.

I think there is an option in "Battery Maintenance", "Charge Thresholds" which is optimised to increase the battery lifespan. What do you think about that?

I'm skeptical though I also have no idea if it works. I just figure on buying a new battery every couple years and don't worry too much about it.

if you do not use it for long periods of time, 40% and closest to 32 degrees F (or 0 degrees C) without actually freezing.


if you could get that battery exactly at 40% and around 33 degrees F you can reduce the batteries breakdown down to 2%. warmer conditions and higer/lower charges increase this breakdown percentage. less than freezing temperatures can and will damage the battery.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I should keep my battery somewhere between 40 - 60%--even as it's still connected to my laptop (as I said, I use it very infrequently)

Due to the architecture of cell packs the optimal is 40%-70% The percentage is high because it will prevent full discharge of particular cell. Don't worry to discharge it to 4% but don't do it often.
