Fan Noise - Battery Power Higher than on AC?

#1 Post by wiesl » Sun Aug 21, 2005 2:55 pm

Hello!

When I run a T43p (2668-G7G) on Battery the fan is much louder than on AC. (Idle Noise)

This can be reproduced by plugging the power cord on or off.

Any ideas why the fan has this behaviour? Can this be changed?

Thank you.

Ciao,
Wiesl

Sounds like a result of the Power Management Utility settings. It is most likely set different for AC and then Battery.

To access this Power Manager Utility, press the blue oval button next to the volume buttons labeled "Access IBM". Then click on "CONFIGURE". Then "Manage Power". Then "Battery Settings".

You will see the profiles, click new or edit to change things around. There are a number of threads in this section with info on the best settings for X outcome.

In the Power Management Utility, if your chosen profile is NOT
"Power Source Optimized", choose it and see if it helps with the fan.

If it doesn't help, then create your own profile by chosing:
Under the Battery Settings:
Max CPU speed to: adaptive or lower.
Optimize fan control to: maximum performance
Display Brightness to: Whatever you are comfortable with.

See if this helps.

Not to jack your thread, but....

My fan is at full "piss-me-off-loud" level right now. I accidentally nudged the power cord out and back in, making the system go to battery for a split second, and the next thing I knew the fan shut off. Stayed off for a few seconds, then came back on in "I'm-a-viatnam-helicopter" mode (full speed) for a while. Now its back to "piss-me-off-loud".

While I have the same settings for AC/Battery, it is interesting that this wierd fluctuation happens when the power cord is removed and placed back.
