Expresscard vs "Stuff"

#1 Post by Navck » Sun Aug 21, 2005 6:48 pm

Hey, what would you rather have on your Thinkpad

1 Expresscard port vs
3 USB card readers/SD + xD card reader/Firewire

I think the Expresscard can do all the job of those... But what would you rather have? I love expansion and capablity to change, not being stuck

With ExpressCard, we have the Egg before the Chicken.

We have a slot that has No Available Cards. It's as useless as a hole in the side of my ThinkPad. Maybe someone will make an ExpressCard54 Coin Holder or Luggage Tag.

Until there are cards for sale, a second CardBus slot would be much appreciated. Or anything else.

I fully expect the first ExpressCard54 cards to be overpriced, and likely the same functionality as already available for CardBus -- Firewire/USB2/Card reader. Those bandwidths are already met by CardBus.

The other ExpressCard products are just USB designs warmed over, using the USB pins in the ExpressCard slot to provide the same IO as a USB port. Maybe someone can make a "USB Slot break-out connector" card to provide those USB ports with a useful connector.
