Why not use the genuine key that they include? Or is it because you're using a pirated copy...?

I never understand these questions. I don't know about the newest machines, but all the IBM laptops and desktops I have used up to and including a T42 do not require activation. You turn the machine on and it is activated (legally, too). If the machine requires activation, it is broken. How do I know that? Because it has happened to me twice and in both cases, it was faulty recovery CD's. IBM replaced them and clearly noted that any activation screen on an IBM preload was an error.

So why do so many people try to keep activating what is already activated?

Neo...if you did a "clean install" and not from the recovery discs and you used a non-legal copy of Windows XP, then the answer to your question is "NO." I suggest that if this is the case, you back up all your data and do a true recovery with legitimate IBM recovery discs or buy a licensed copy of WindowsXP and use the MagicBean or whatever keyfinder your using to change the CD code to a legitimate one. Otherwise, with the new Windows Validation system, your stuck.

Just my 2cents.
