The only cards I even know exist for laptops are these from SIIG: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815150030
That's a good price too as most places want far more (like here: http://www.firewire-1394.com/siig-firew ... ardbus.htm ).

That's still quite a bit more than a firewire 400 card.
From what I've seen 800 won't gain you that much with most external hard drives. Just wondering if you think it's really worth it to spend $60 on a Firewire 800 card when Firewire 400 can be had for less than $20 and speed wise there won't be a whole lot of difference the majority of the time.

X31, T43p (on sale soon I think
), T400
You can't do much better than LaCie's PCMCIA Firewire card. Check www.LaCie.com.
I have two LaCie drives and they're speed limited by the interface to around 65-70 MB/sec.

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

The LaCie card is nice but the LaCie 800 card IS A REBRANDED SIIG CARD... and for more money! It's $79 plus shipping from LaCie and the genuine SIIG card is $61 plus (lower) shipping from NewEgg. No advantage I see as the card will be inside your laptop so no one will see the name badge, colors, or pretty pictures, even if you buy a LaCie drive and want a "matching pair".
