r40e with one "loose" USB port

#1 Post by lowie » Tue Aug 23, 2005 3:14 am

I own an r40e 2684. Unfortunately, the machine only has two USB ports, and they're only 1.1, so 11 mbps. That is not a real problem though, as i own a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card that I use when I connect an external HD or when I need to transfer a lot of data.

The real problem is that my back USB port is malfunctional. When I connect a USB device (flash memory or whatsoever), it'll only work when I constantly push it to the left - at the beginning of the cable. This is very unhandy, especially when i need my two USB ports "on the road" (at home, I use a USB hub to connect with all peripherals).

Anyone familiar with similar problems? I think the connection between USB port and the motherboard is bad, but as I am not a good technician, I ask for help before attempting to disassemble my machine and trying to fix it "trial and error"-wise.

Thanks for any suggestion you guys might have!

A proud TP R-series owner.
