I had a similar problem as I'm from Europe. While it was hard enough to find a shop that accepts an European (i.e. non-US) credit card, no merchant would ship to Europe (they are not allowed to, some kind of export regulations, I believe).

So unless you'll be travelling to the US sometime soon to pick it up there yourself (and then you'd probably have to pay some kind of tax upon returning to your country) it seems you're out of luck with this one.

EDIT: Of course, you might be able to find someone who doesn't care for the export regulations... But that might get tricky

Dear Bobasha,

Bill Morrow, the host of this forum, upon prepayment of the full price, can possibly ship to Egypt too. You may need to wire transfer the money to him, though. Shipping and handling charges, however, can be paid by your credit card.

Euclid computers may also ship outside USA. Many other online sellers can ship outside USA too. But again credit card might not be accepted and wire transfer might be required.

I would like to know about any shop that sells a reliable laptop at a fair price and ships outside USA where the customer can pay by either VISA or MasterCard. Please PM me or post here if anyone has been able to do it personally, without hassle. I routinely buy from Amazon.com and they never had any problem shipping to my Japan address and accepting my Japan issued credit cards. So why can't others do the same?

Regards

Shoaib

My guess is that, since Amazon is sort of an international company, which has a local subsidiary in a lot of countries, it's easier for them to check and handle local, non-US credit cards, whereas for US-only companies it's not so easy and might involve a higher risk?
But that's just what I concluded from what I was told on the phone by several US merchants...

Anyway, during my research about 2 months ago I managed to find some US merchants that would accept non-US credit cards (under some special conditions, like faxing them a copy of my passport and the card), but all of them were either not willing or not allowed to ship a ThinkPad to Europe. :?

I know this is an old post, but I'm interested if anyone has found an online store that ships to Europe and accepts European credit cards?

Have you tried the aforementioned Amazon? They do sell Thinkpads.

Yes, I've tried Amazon, they won't ship to my "geographic location".

@ Bobasha:

Consider www.ebay.co.uk or www.ebay.de - as it is mostly private persons dealing here, some may most likely want to ship to you, if being paid in advance for this. The "problem" might be that you end up with Windows in German and a German keyboard... :-(

@ skystorm & Jagoop:

A hint: If you wish to trade in the USA (while being located abroad), and if the shop in USA will only sell to customers having address in the USA, you may arrange such an address via e.g. http://www.myus.com/. Note the additional cost (there are a number of such companies; I don’t know who are the cheapest and best).

I have never tried this, and I also don't know if all USA-shops accept such an address, but it might an opportunity?

By the way: If someone from abroad - e.g. Denmark! - shop via the internet in USA, and are having the purchase exported out of USA, would it be possible to have the tax (or VAT) paid in USA reimbursed in some way??

Best regards,

Johan

You won't pay tax in the US if you purchase online. The only exception to this is if the business has a physical presence (.e.g building) in the state in which you reside. I just ordered a T-61 from Lenovo today and had to pay NY state tax. If I order from Newegg.com (a California based company) I do not pay tax.

Thanks a lot for this sharing this information, Harry - absolutely useful when in doubt of what price you may end up with "at the bottom line", if purchasing from e.g. the USA. Much appreciated! Trying to find our way through the complex/commercial global village... :-)
