Just received my new T43!!!

#1 Post by TimWang » Wed Aug 24, 2005 1:47 am

I just received my new T43!!! I really glad about the purchase and so far, it has meet all my expectations. Since I've heard so much about problems with the T43 series, I wasn't expecting a perfect machine when I bought it. So far, the only problems I've come across is a single dead pixel. It doesn't bother me much and I can hardly see it without squinting so I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Any how, just wanted to tell everyone how glad I am to make this purchase, just in time for when I head off to University in the fall.

what is the machine type and model number of your T43? how is the fan noise?

if you could add a signature to your profile that would be a big help to others.

Its a 2686-DGU. I got it for about 1800 CDN from the IBM site. I think the fan is at an acceptable level, but it is on all the time. Don't really know how to fix this but I guess I'm going to call IBM support tomorrow and ask them what's wrong with the fan.

Wow, that price sounds pretty good. You're making me jealous, currently have a T41 1.6MHz.

Yea, apparently the price dropped by almost 300 dollars over night. I called IBM at night to get a quote and I planned on purchasing the machine the next morning. So, when I called again the next morning, a new sales rep gave me the new quote of 1800 and change. Let's just say that I'm more than thrilled that I waited a day.

also, the newer models are noted as "New" on Lenovo's thinkpad.com page.

I received my DGU with one bad pixel as well. Possible bad batch of DGU's? Hmmm. I notice my fan runs all the time too. I actually don't mind since it gets too hot as it is. I am torn between keeping my DGU and sending it back. If I send it back, I have to wait for new DGU and I really can't afford to be without my laptop, as I use it for work. If I keep it gets hot, and has a bad pixel. Anyone else have issues with recent DGU?

Just curious but if you send your DGU back, will you get another DGU?

Yes, if the wait is not too long. I love the configuration of the machine and I really like the laptop. I am just not sure if maybe I got a bad machine or it is a problem with the DGU, or 14.1" T43's. If they all run hot then I don't know.
The problem I am having it that I can't get a better laptop than what I got for what I paid. I bought trough EPP, extended the warranty, and added 512MB RAM for around $1500. There is nothing else as thin/light and as well made (structurally) for the price. I state structurally since I do have a bad pixel and it runs quite hot sometimes. Overall though, like stated above, I really like the laptop, and would hate to part with it.

Have you looked at the T42 models?

I got my model, with an extra 1Gb or ram and an extra 6 cell for just under $1900 (with EPP). If you get 512 instead of 1 Gb, you can probably get it for under 1800. Just an option. I haven't pulled up your model to read the specs but mine are in my signature (below).

Here are my specs:

T43 2686-DGU 14.1" sxga 1400X1050 60GB 7200RPM ATI X300 64MB Multiburner Fingerprint Reader Intel B/G wireless XP Professional 512 MB RAM

Standard Warrnaty is 1 year but I upgraded it to 3 years. Plus I added 512 MB RAM.

About the only thing it didn't get is bluetooth, which I might add later.

Whats the processor speed?

My modle came with 3 year warranty. Add the extras I got and they seem similarily priced (and capable).

I decided to try again. I ordered the DGU again and am going to return the one I have. Hopefully it will come not too long after I send the other one back. I also decided to go with Thinkpad protection this time as well. Fingers crossed that the next one will be flawless. One can ony hope.

the epp price on the the DGU is 1,844 CDN. Consumer is $2000. You got it lower? I'd keep it at that price :D

*edit - nevermind, just came across the DVD thread*

So what kind of burner comes with the 2686-DGU?

I picked on up during the mastercard pricing mistake (!), but have only installed vmware and struggled with the wifi card...

I did burn the restore media, but haven't installed nero yet....
