T43P Ok for games?

#1 Post by chipsicle » Wed Aug 24, 2005 8:28 am

After looking around and doing the research for months, I am down to 2 laptops.

Acer 8104 and IBM T43P.

This article really help me decide on these 2.

I was wondering if the T43P will be able to handle some games? Particularly the world of warcraft. If it is serviceable with the fireglv3200 128mg. Then it is the IBm for me. If not then it is the acer.

Does any user have personal experience playing WoW on t43p?

Thanks for the feedback
Jack

Yes, you can play WoW even on a regular T42 with 64MB of VRAM, the extra 64MB of VRAM that comes with the T/p- series helps.
As WoW is not the best game regarding loading mechanisms, I definitely suggest another stick of RAM, a total of 1GB would be sufficient.
I got about 50 frames per second on my card at 1280x1024 resolution (512MB of computer RAM) about everywhere, but running to a bigger city caused the awful loading coding to come out, just awful, FPS was about .5 for a while, then again 50.

Anyway, I don't think much of the game, tried the trial, every [censored] character is more or less identical to every other, every village was consisted of the same houses etc. A rather waste of time IMO :)

thanks for the feed back...

Well leaning towards getting an IBM. Might wait a bit to see what the Z series will look like.

check out laptoplogic.com for a good review of the 8103. they also compared the Ferrari 4005 to the 8104 in the Ferrari review. very thorough review, probably the best I've seen.

I play WoW with my T43p at native 1400x1050 resolution with full details and max view distance. Everything goes smoothly, even in battleground.

I also play Wow and Cs:source and they run very smooth even with 512mb of ram, I have ordered another stick of kingston 512mb.

I have a question for those who play these two games, how hot does the bottom part (bottom of the pointing stick buttons) of the laptop get after around 1hour of gaming? My CHC showed 64-66C, but when I physically touch the bottom, it felt much hotter than that.

WoW gets my computer to 72-74°C with undervolted CPU. With normal voltage, it went upto 81°C. And when i touch the bottom... It feels pretty much like it ;)
