9-cell battery on ebay
9-cell battery on ebay
I am thinking about getting a 9-cell battery for my t43. Has anyone purchase one on ebay before? I am not looking at a generic one, but the offical IBM one. I found some on ebay for 90-100. Are they reliable? If you know any good site that sale offical IBM battery for good price please let me know also. Thanks.
T43 2686-DGU - 1.86GHz Pentium M, 512MB Ram DDR2 PC2-4200, 60GB 7200rpm hdd, 64MB ATI Radeon x300, 4X DVD Recordable, Fingerprint Reader.
I've bought the older 6600mAH 9 cell battery from Ebay for about $60 shipped. It works fine. The battery is new but manufactured about a year ago. After 2 months, I think I've lost about 10% capacity.
I've bought an IBM T30 battery from this Ebay seller with good experience:

Newegg.com use to have the hi-cap T40 battery for $99, but it looks like they don't carry it any more.

yeah, those r the same one i saw. but you said they r manufactured last yr? I read somewhere that it is not good to purchase old battery because they start losing charge the right away, is that true? maybe it is worth it for me to purchase it directly from ibm. I get epp discount anyway. so prob only a little bit difference in price.mysbca wrote:I've bought the older 6600mAH 9 cell battery from Ebay for about $60 shipped. It works fine. I don't know how old this stock is, but supposedly LiIon do start to lose capacity right after manufacturing. I've gotten about 5 hours on a T43 when I've first gotten the battery.
It depends on your risk tolerance. If you bid on it and get it for about $70 for a new year old battery versus $125 for a new battery with 1 year warranty. The new battery also has slightly higher capacity, 7200mAH.

I paid $49.99 + $7 shipping for one of the older "High Capacity" 9-cell batteries off eBay. I see there are a few more on there from the same seller.
This is the 6.6Ah (08K8197) battery, not the newer 7.2Ah one.
It arrived new, in IBM box, just as promised, and works fine.
As others have noted, it has a 2003 manufacture date, both on the box and shown in battery manager.
So far it's working good, and holding slightly more than it's design capacity.
Considering the price (1/3 retail new), if I have to replace it after a year, I'm still money ahead.

I just snagged a new 7.2Ah (92P1102) from this seller's auction at $66:

It came sealed in an IBM box and was manufactured in 06/05.

parts001 currently has one 9-cell battery available:

Do you have evidence they aren't OEM shells refilled with generic cells?mysbca wrote: What's wrong with buying batteries like this? This whole thread is discussing buying OEM (official, original IBM/Lenovo) batteries.
I'm positive the Ebay seller isn't selling at a loss, so you know something isn't what it seems. If it's a new OEM battery, it was ultimately sold from the manufacturer and isn't available much cheaper.
Rule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
T43 (2687-DUU) - 1.86GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 100GB 5400 (non IBM-firmware Hitachi 5k100) HD, Fingerprint Scanner, 802.11abg/Bluetooth, ATI x300
No, I don't have evidence that they aren't OEM shells refilled. I remember that the batteries that Taoyi sent was still in the heavy duty shrink wrap. I know; he can have a shrink wrap machine, too. He has been referenced here before (has perfect feedback):DIGITALgimpus wrote:Do you have evidence they aren't OEM shells refilled with generic cells?

and in earlier threads that I can't find at the moment.
I've also received batteries in unopen boxes with original IBM seals from other sellers. So as with everything on Ebay, read the descriptions carefully and in between the lines.
