9-cell battery on ebay

#1 Post by klau25 » Wed Aug 24, 2005 12:03 pm

I am thinking about getting a 9-cell battery for my t43. Has anyone purchase one on ebay before? I am not looking at a generic one, but the offical IBM one. I found some on ebay for 90-100. Are they reliable? If you know any good site that sale offical IBM battery for good price please let me know also. Thanks.

I've bought the older 6600mAH 9 cell battery from Ebay for about $60 shipped. It works fine. The battery is new but manufactured about a year ago. After 2 months, I think I've lost about 10% capacity.

I've bought an IBM T30 battery from this Ebay seller with good experience:

Newegg.com use to have the hi-cap T40 battery for $99, but it looks like they don't carry it any more.

yeah, those r the same one i saw. but you said they r manufactured last yr? I read somewhere that it is not good to purchase old battery because they start losing charge the right away, is that true? maybe it is worth it for me to purchase it directly from ibm. I get epp discount anyway. so prob only a little bit difference in price.

I don't know how old this stock is, but supposedly LiIon do start to lose capacity right after manufacturing. I've gotten about 5 hours on a T43 when I've first gotten the battery.

It depends on your risk tolerance. If you bid on it and get it for about $70 for a new year old battery versus $125 for a new battery with 1 year warranty. The new battery also has slightly higher capacity, 7200mAH.

I paid $49.99 + $7 shipping for one of the older "High Capacity" 9-cell batteries off eBay. I see there are a few more on there from the same seller.

This is the 6.6Ah (08K8197) battery, not the newer 7.2Ah one.

It arrived new, in IBM box, just as promised, and works fine.

As others have noted, it has a 2003 manufacture date, both on the box and shown in battery manager.

So far it's working good, and holding slightly more than it's design capacity.

Considering the price (1/3 retail new), if I have to replace it after a year, I'm still money ahead.

I just snagged a new 7.2Ah (92P1102) from this seller's auction at $66:

It came sealed in an IBM box and was manufactured in 06/05.

Actually, I got the T40 battery from a different seller. I got a T30 battery from this seller about a year ago.

I've bought new OEM batteries from these sellers: taoyi and parts001.

parts001 currently has one 9-cell battery available:

Do not buy batteries like this!

There is a risk factor here. I would strongly recommend you buy the official ones...sorry, I know they cost more, but you don't need to destroy your very expensive computer....

What's wrong with buying batteries like this? This whole thread is discussing buying OEM (official, original IBM/Lenovo) batteries.

Do you have evidence they aren't OEM shells refilled with generic cells?

I'm positive the Ebay seller isn't selling at a loss, so you know something isn't what it seems. If it's a new OEM battery, it was ultimately sold from the manufacturer and isn't available much cheaper.

Rule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

No, I don't have evidence that they aren't OEM shells refilled. I remember that the batteries that Taoyi sent was still in the heavy duty shrink wrap. I know; he can have a shrink wrap machine, too. He has been referenced here before (has perfect feedback):
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=29771
and in earlier threads that I can't find at the moment.

I've also received batteries in unopen boxes with original IBM seals from other sellers. So as with everything on Ebay, read the descriptions carefully and in between the lines.
