MSConfig... I know everyone uses it but...

#1 Post by redrumchoy » Thu Aug 25, 2005 12:15 pm

when using "selective startup" (unchecking a few of the drivers and what not that you don't want to load up on start up), everytime you boot up u get this annoying pop up box that says somethin glike "you're using selective start up blah blah blah" and the checkbox is like "check here if you dont want to see this pop up message again OR use selective startup". In other words, its eitherget rid of the pop up box or just let crappy apps like windows messenger loadup at reboot...

so how cani get rid of the pop up box?

The pop-up box should only appear once each time you run msconfig and change settings. Then it won't appear again until you change something else.

It should not pop up each boot once you click the checkbox.

Mine does not.

Use Startup Cop from PC Magazine - vastly better for what disabling (but not deleting) any given startup item. StartCPL works as well, but I like the first tool better and use it all the time. ... JD Hurst

There is also a startup selector in Spybot (advanced settings), that is nice for removing pesky programs - no reboot message either.

that message will show until you check the box on that window that says 'dont show this' before you click OK

Hmmm... I think I was in this kind of rut before. I got rid of that pesky pop-up box by unchecking "selective start-up" and ticking "don't show this message again" check box. I went ahead to the start-up tab anyway and unchecked the programs that I did not want to run at start-up. Illogical I presume but then again in my frustration and confusion, I could have hit accidentally the right buttons. I hope i'm not still in that confused state :?
