2668-Q2U

#1 Post by blueiraq » Thu Aug 25, 2005 11:43 pm

I just ordered a new t43p from lenovo, after a lot of difficulties (they wouldn't accept my wire, they wouldn't accept non-US issued credit cards, and the only other US cc I had didn't have a high enough limit to buy)

2668-Q2U: shipping should be 15 days.

It's overly expensive but not necessarily overpriced, as it finally has the 100G 7200rpm drive and 2G ram (with an upgrade coupon). I got the 5 year warranty and some batteries too -- total cost was about $3885 with alumni discount.

And now commences the waiting.

Did anyone else receive a new Aug05 model of thinkpad yet?

I just ordered that same t43p yesterday, and added extra RAM for a total of 2GB. However, I paid about $300 for the extra 1GB.

How much did you pay for the extra RAM?
Current Laptop:
T43p 2.26 GHz - 2668Q2U
2GB - 100GB 7200 RPM
15" UXGA FireGL V3200

Returned Laptop:
T43p 2.13 GHz - 2668H3U
1.5GB - 60GB 7200 RPM
15" UXGA FireGL V3200

My Backup Laptop:
T30 2 GHz - 2366XBX
Heat Prob - Dead RAM Slot

$249 (special)

I realize it is expensive compared to crucial, but this saves me $50-100 express shipping on the RAM, and some tracking overhead, and hopefully comes pre-installed, and most importantly, is covered by my 5 year warranty so I can be more aggresive about demanding cross-shipping of replacements.

I'm buying lower end t43s for all my employees, though!

I order 2668-Q2U on August 17, and by August 25, it arrived at my door. All I can say is that it's the best laptop that I have ever owned. It's quieter than the earlier T43p model that I had barnone. The fan only comes on full throttled when booting up and during CPU intensive application otherwise most of the time it is a very quiet machine. You really have to put your ears on the palm rest in order to hear the fan.

This whole loudness thing really doesn't matter to me -- I usually have 33dB isolation earphones in, otherwise I'm in an environment with air conditioners, automatic weapons, mortars, trucks, helicopters, old Russian cargo jets, jet aircraft on afterburners, etc.

What kind of battery life are you getting?

This notebook comes with 9 cell battery by preconfiguration automatically. With 9 cells it lasts 5 hours with everything turned down to the lowest setting and wifi turned off

boy i been so busy with work. i have not been able to take photos yet. but i will take photos this weekend and post them up. promise

i didn't expect this notebook to arrive this early at all because when i ordered it the sale rep said to me that this notebook is so new and so high in demand particularly 2668-Q2U and 2668-P2U models that these 2 models are back ordered for 3 weeks.

the next thing i knew it, it arrived at my door 6 days later. so that's the story

I hope you guys (mods) are not upset because I posted pictures for my posts in this section? Although, maybe it is because the pictures were so related to my previous posts?

:D

H'mm, I'm considering ordering either the 2668Q2U or the 2668P2U, I called IBM/Lenovo yesterday and was quoted a 3 week delivery time. I did not have good luck with my first T43p (2668G2U) but I really like my T42 (2379R9U).
The T43p I had arrived with glue on the display, was loud as hell, even the hard drive was loud. My T42 is extremely quiet and works great.
Is there a difference between Thinkpad quality from when IBM had control of production over Lenovo?

They are still made by the same factory, so unless Lenovo tells the factory to let up on quality, what you had (the bad ones) is probably just manufacturing variences.

I think Lenovo still makes high quality products . And the main reason why Lenovo bought the PC divison of IBM is that Lenovo wants the "IBM" brand, so why did Lenovo ruin the thinkpad brand?

Well with EPP discount you only have to pay $178.50 for a 1 GB RAM

IBM gives 30% off for all their parts and accessories, 25% off for CTO and preconfigured notebooks below $2000, and 35% off for preconfigured notebooks above $2000
