X41 & zeroshock

#1 Post by chrismuktar » Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:36 am

Has anybody got a zeroshock case for an X41? I'm thinking about order an 11" case but I can't be sure it will fit...

Cheers,
Chris.

I have a elecom zeroshock cover (elecom seems to resell shinza cases over here in the UK), and I wouldnt recommend it. I think it would probably be great if you have an ibook or something with curved corners, but for my x20 it wasnt great. The problem was that because the case doesnt have any real height to it, it just forms around the shape of the laptop, it was rubbing against the edges of the thinkpad (screen especially). This was starting to cause the nice thinkpad black paint/surface/covering to wear off. YMMV but im not using mine any more.

Is there anything else that you'd definately recommend? I'm assuming the x20 is the same form factor as the x41...
cheers!

Some people seem to like the Waterfield case a lot, but I decided to buy an IBM case that's specifically designed for the X40. I told my friend to ship it from Taiwan...

All I can say is, the BEST case I've ever used. Fits like a glove, and protects my beautiful X40 (has a "memory", shock-absorbing foam). :D And unlike the Zeroshock, it doesn't abrade the surface of the thinkpad. The entire case is made of high quality materials (hopefully, it will last until I graduate)

Here's a link: (The pictures don't do it much justice.)

http://shop.enet.com.cn/marketplace/DP48240.html

http://www-604.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... d=33016242

It only costs $40 CDN...less than half of the price of the Waterfield case and may even rival the worksmanship of the Waterfield *ducks and runs*.

Funny that they don't sell that same case in the UK. Still, I might order it. Is there space in it fo the a charger/external mouse? My initial attraction to the zeroshock was that it was for just the pc itself, meaning I could rucksack it. This looks a bit like a rucksack itself, but small enough for me to stick inside another bag.

Yep, there's a pocket in the front where you can store a small external mouse and the AC adapter. It's somewhat tight with the extra mouse, but with only the AC adapter, it fits perfectly. :)

Hmm... what about an X21?

I'm looking for a new case, seeing as my current laptop case was made for a 14.1"-15" laptop that's about 2" thick, so I have to be careful to secure my X21 well, because otherwise, it'll bounce around (the UltraBase helps, though).

I want a case that'll give me the option of carrying the UltraBase X2 if I need it, yet be small enough to not let the X21 bounce around too much if it's just it.

There's gotta be room for the 72W AC adaptor and a screwdriver (I carry a screwdriver EVERYWHERE.)

What can you guys suggest? I would pay USD $30 at most for it new.

pphilipko: How much, and what is the biggest laptop that can go in them? If it can take an X21, I want one.

Also, the ability to take an X32 would be nice, as an X32 is what I'm looking at going towards after this X21 runs it's course.

It fits an X40 with extended battery perfectly. It costs about $40.

By "extended battery", do you mean the one on the bottom, or the 8-cell?

If it's the bottom one, it'll probably hold a X32 no prob...

As for an X21... The X21 is 9"x11"x1". Will it fit? I know the X40 is 8.3"x10.5"x0.81" for a 4-cell...

I mean the 8-cell. As for the X21, I doubt that it would fit...though the X32 might have a chance...

Hmm... I assume the X40 goes sideways into that case, right?

If so, the 8-cell will push the depth out to around 8.8", and an X21 will probably fit.

How much vertical clearance is there when the X40 is in there? If there's 0.5", it'll fit.

Obviously, thickness isn't an issue with the X21, but it COULD be with the X32 (which is 1.3" thick, IIRC).

Actually, I'm getting one right now for my friend. I have a contact in Hong Kong who's ordering it and shipping it to me.

If anyone else is interested, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Hi pphilipko,
I am interested in the case. Would it be possible to order the one for me?
Any idea how this should worked out?
Thanks!

Right now, the waiting time for the case is 4~6 weeks. As per my previous post, my contact has already ordered one of these cases. Lenovo (Hong Kong) has informed that they're out of stock currently :?. When I get the cases, which could be a month from now, I will PM those who have expressed interest and re-order. However, when I do re-order, I'll need a deposit of ~20 dollars.

On a tangential note, I'm VERY busy right now...sometimes, I wish I was back in high school. I barely have time to finish my course work, and wonder why how I manage to have the time to sell cases to others... :(

I just ordered the Waterfield Sleeve with flap for my new X41 tablet. Will post some images of it when it arrive on Tuesday. I loved my case for the T43P, will be giving it to a good friend a little south of me, hope the birds approve.

I know it's been a while since this post, but I just got on the forum after a long absence.

I'm wondering what size you ordered and if the X41T fits well inside. I have an IBM X41T (tablet) with the 8-cell battery. Their sizing chart
gives the dimensions as 13"x11.1"x2", but the actual maximum dimensions of my tablet are 10.8"x10.5"x1.5" (side to side, front to back, and height). It looks like a size 11 case would be appropriate instead of the size 20 case the
chart suggests. What did you get?

Thanks,
Dan.

I emailed the site and got a quick reply. They said the dimensions on their table were incorrect and fixed them. They said they specifically designed the size 20 sleeve for the X41T w/ 8-cell battery. So I ordered one. I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival so I can do a drop test.

Yeah, right.

Dan.
