With T42s: The New ThinkPad theme for Windows XP

#1 Post by fox_napier » Mon Jun 28, 2004 3:47 pm

Hello all,

Just thought I'd share the fun... there's a neat Active Desktop Theme and a screensaver shipping with new T42 laptops:

http://www.pc.ibm.com/ww/thinkpad/commu ... nload.html

The included items are the ThinkPad features screensaver and two of the three IBM themes.

They're pretty useful, especially the Active Desktop. As Active Desktop entities they update the battery life, new email, hard drive space information on your XP desktop's background.

(I still haven't got the email monitor working.... anyone know if it is IMAP or POP? Where does it look for new mail?)

Nice link. I'm wondering the same thing about the email. Also, I'm wondering if there is any way of customizing it. The HDD indicator is almost useless. Editing the wallpaper would be nice as well..

As a general rule, e-mail will be found on a POP server.

(OK so shoot me down...)

I think that icon is not for emails, but for the IBM Message Center. Will try it later.

Too bad the Thinkpad theme doesn't have the calendar from the Desktop activedesktop theme.

According to the screensaver, the icon is "received email indicator."

The HD space thing is worthless, would have liked "Free Physical RAM" instead.

I ran this a few months ago - and yes, it does reflect 'messages received' - though I'm not sure how it knows which pop accounts to scan - more than likely just an indicator of unread mails already resident in in-box

Then I guess it uses MS Outlook to scan for new messages.

Careful - it'll probably start replying to them too - and picking up all the best girls...!

Sorry, but can't see much of it. I had to use the on screen magnifier. What resolution is that? Is it running on your TP?

how do you get it to check your mail.. i use eudora for my work mail (IMAP) and outlook 2003 for home mail (POP)... i sent both accounts a test message and it didn't notify me.. how do you configure it? i figured it just used whatever you had set as your default mail client but that doesn't seem to be the case... tried leaving the client open and minimized.. still nothing.. hrmmm.
