Upgraded Router Firmware and Access Conn - Still BAD WiFi

#1 Post by parsetdx » Mon Jun 28, 2004 4:26 pm

So I opened my new T42 2373-6VU yesterday, turned it on. Great machine. However, the WiFi really sucks so far. I read some posts here and took the advice of upgrading my router firmware (Linksys 802.11b - BEFW11S4 v2) and reinstalled Access Connections with the latest version (3.21 I believe).

Still no go. I get a whopping 2 KB/s when trying to download a file. Woohoo! My Ethernet works fine. What gives?

I used my old HP with this router with zero problems. I get almost 100% signal strength all over my house, so that can't be it. I'm using 64-bit WEP - should I just go all out and turn it off?

Does anybody have any suggestions. I am extremely disappointed with IBM Tech Support and I am quite close actually to returning this T42. I'm not about to waste $1800 on a machine whose whole purpose in my life is to be completely portable and wirelessly enabled. Please help make me an IBM fan by getting this thing working! Thanks in advance.

I came across this thread while browsing the Dell forums a few days ago:

Seems that it's the Intel Pro/2200BG that people are having problems with. See Slick1ru2's post - he's using Linksys routers as well.
