CE Utility Diskette for i1200?

#1 Post by feklee » Sun Aug 28, 2005 4:38 pm

Could anyone please point me to a place where I can obtain the CE Utility Diskette for the iSeries 1200 (1161-267 in my case). If the disk is not easily available, does anyone know whom at IBM/Lenovo I could contact on the issue (I already contacted tech support, but unsuccessfully).

Some further information:

* The Web Doc ID of the disk is MIGR-4LPKLL.

* I found an archive of the IBM PC Company BBS FTP Site:

http://ps2supersite.homedns.org/pccbbs

Unfortunately, though, it's dated December 13, 1999 and thus doesn't
contain the data concerning the iSeries 1200 which AFAIK was first
shipped in mid 2000 (I bought mine on August 2000). The archive does
contain the CE Utility Diskette II for iSeries 1400 models, but this
is likely not of much use to me (file name: "ceuiq102.exe", Web Doc
ID: "MIGR-493UYM").

Just called again and this time I got further information:

A tech support person told me that he has access to the diskette image
using the given Web Doc ID. But, although it's only ca. 300kB in size,
he can't send it to me since there's a large banner on the page stating
that the diskette is only for service partners. He then connected me to
another person who was supposed to be able to tell me addresses of
support centers close to Baden-Baden, Germany, but this person simply
told me to call tech support again. So, I did that and this time I met
a person who informed me that there is only one service center left
in Germany: Geodis in Heppenheim. I called Geodis [1], and a
technician told me again that the diskette is only for internal use,
especially since it can be used to change serial numbers, etc.. But he
said that I can come to Heppenheim and have the problem fixed on
location (it's only a five minute job he said, and AFAICS there would be
no charges).

The only problem: I probably won't be near Heppenheim in the near
future. So, I'd still like to have the diskette, especially since I may
need it two times:

1. To check whether the settings of the inverter board are still OK.

2. To reprogram the inverter board in case I replace it (this is
necessary if the settings are OK, but the board nevertheless doesn't
behave correctly).

Hm, no success so far. But maybe someone who has access to the document with the Web Doc ID MIGR-4LPKLL could either send me the disk image or tell me the name of the corresponding file (so that I can google it):?:

Found out more today. The diskette image in question most likely goes by the file name ceukq110.exe

Anyone?

Feklee,

For a thread consiting entirely of you responding to yourself, this was very useful. Thanks for your detective work, this disk is exactly what I needed.

For the benefit of the search engine: many of the service manuals list "Check LCD Inverter ID" as a troubleshooting step. I couldn't figure out what this meant. What it means is to use this IBM servie boot disk and run the included LCD utility. In my case, it told me that the ID on my new self installed inverter was set to "13.3 inch" instead of "12.1 inch Hitachi". Changing the ID got things working correctly.

Thanks again Feklee.

Is there a newer version of this CE Utility?

#7 Post by danieldavid » Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:24 am

Great detective work!

I tried this utility on my R31, as I will need to replace the inverter, but saw that it only covers older LCD panels.

Would any of you know where I can find a somewhat newer version of this utility, I guess from around the middle of 2002?

Thanks,
Daniel
