Closing the computer...

#1 Post by STS06 » Sun Aug 28, 2005 7:53 pm

When I close the computer (whiles it on), it goes into standby/sleep mode...but I have two questions regarding this:

1.) It beeps when I close it and beeps again when I open it. Is there any way to stop this beeping sound.

2.) When I did it once, after opening the computer, it didnt go back to my logon/finger print stage...it was still in standby/sleep mode. I had to press Fn+ F4. I don't know why it did this. I've only open/closed it a couple of times and its happened only once...not sure why.

Thanks for the help!

Don't know about #1 but with regard to #2 the mechanism that sets the computer in and out of sleep mode is a pysical switch so sometime for whatever reason the switch is not trigger correctly, it has happened to me on occasion too. You don't need to press Fn+F4 to come out of sleep mode, you simply hold down the Fn key for about a second and the computer should resume.

Ok cool. So your computer doesnt beep when you close the lid and reopen it? Aggg! Hahah

So just to recap...I wanted to know how to stop the computer from beeping everytime I close it (when the computer is running) and open it up again.

Thank you.

Use Power Manager, I remember you change the setting in there.

Beep/sound can also be managed in the BIOS. I usually keep mine to silent, or disabled. Whatever the option is...

Right click on an open area of the desktop then choose: Properties > Screen Saver > Power... > Beeps/Alarms > (1) alarm and (4) beep settings are set there.

Also to stop the beeping soune: click the green battery icon on the taskbar > Launch battery maximiser wizard > on the third window in you can de-select the 'beep until the computer enters standby/suspend or hibernation mode'.

Thanks for the help Cordery and GomJabber.

I tried both of your methods and nothing has worked. When I close the lid, the Half Moon sign is lit (on the top of the laptop) and it beeps. When I open the Laptop, it beeps again.

Edit: Cordery, the option "Beep until computer enters standby/...." was already de-selected when I ran the wizard. This beep is a repetitive beep and thats not what I was orginally encountering. It was a simple one beep. But now I'm aware of the Battery Power Manager....thanks!

GomJabber: under the screensaver, power options properites, beeps/alarms...the option for the lid close action beep is "disabled". The only beep/alarm.

Ok...thanks GomJabber. What you have to do is the following:

In the desktop properties (right click>properties), go to 'Screensaver', then click on 'Power'. In this window, the Power Options Properties, click on 'Bleeps/Alarms' from the top tags. Here you have to disable both the "Power control beep" and the 'Lid close action beep'. For obvious reasons, if your "Lid close action beep" is enabled, the 'Power Control Beep" option is no longer highlighted.

Thanks for the help guys. Good Day.
