385XD System Commander & Windows 98 Issues

#1 Post by IBM4ME » Sun Aug 28, 2005 9:09 pm

I have a 385XD - PII 266 that I have not used for a few years. There are some documents on there that I am needing to retreive. This afternoon I turned it on to boot it up. It is loaded with V.Com's System Commander Deluxe (I didn't load it on there, a friend did, but can't remember why now) Be-that-as-it-may. the comp. boots up to the System Commander Deluxe menu as it used to, but NOW it lists:

OS.........Selection Menu........................OEM Name Drive
A...........Windows 98 (MS)....................MSWIN4.1 0-0
B...........Windows 98-promt (MS)..........MSWIN4.1 0-0
C...........Boot from drive A:......................................A:
D...........FAT - 32 OS..........................MSWIN4.1 0-0
E............FAT - 32 OS..........................MSWIN4.1 0-0
F............FAT - 32 OS..........................MSWIN4.1 0-0

When you select either of the two Window 98 selections you get this message:

This version of Windows runs only on MS-DOS 8.00.

First, I am not sure why there are now 2 Win 98 options, and why there are three FAT - 32 selections, I don't recall the menu ever coming up like that previously.

Can anyone assist me with this, or possibley circumvent something to get the computer to boot up to the Win 98 OS.

Thanks,
Chris

Have you tried picking any of the other options? Only two of them say Windows 98 but the rest of them say mswin4.1 which if you keep up with Windows version history, suggests Windows 98.
ThinkPad T60: 2GHZ CD T2500, 3gb RAM, 14.1" XGA, 60gb 7k100, Win 7 Ult

Ok, when I try the FAT 32's they first give me the Windows 98 screen, THEN it goes into the Window's ME screen and just hangs. I guess now I remember why I have they system commander, I forgot that I "upgrade" if you could call it that to ME. I tried to see if I could access anything in the safe mode, but when I do that I get a ERROR 301 code. Any ideas? Thx
