Cleaning the computer ..tips please
Cleaning the computer ..tips please
I was wondering if anyone had some good solutions to cleaning the following for Thinpads:
1. The outside case
2. The screen
3. The keyboard (due to oil fingers or crumbs...ok j/k not crumbs..just oily finger).
I'm about to put a sponge next to my laptop to clean my fingers before I type on this computer. I hate ruining the fantastic look of my T42 with oil fingerprints!
I appreciate any help!

T42 (2373N3U): 1.8 Ghz, 1.5 GB DDR, ATI Radeon 9600, 60 GB 7200 rpm HD, 15" SXGA (1400x1050) screen, CD-RW/DVD-ROM (combo), Bluetooth, Fingerprint Reader.
This has been discussed before, so a quick search will reveal all. Especially the oily fingers - I think a few of us were posting about that a few weeks back. Bottom line: either 1) don't use the keyboard (!) or 2) buy an extra keyboard now before they're hard to find in, say, three years when you might want another one.

Search here? LOL - type in 'clean' and 'lid' and click Search and see which of the 1115 responses are relevant!
Cleaning the lid on T's and X's can be vexing.
I've a couple of spare lids from systems that have been parted out and I can honestly say I've tried quite a few things and nothing has beat the mildest detergent you can find plus a very very soft cloth. Not yet, anyways.

Oh and water. Mostly water. In fact, water by itself beats most other stuff.
It would be good to find out more about what others here use!

David, thanks for the help but searching these forums for the help can be a daunting task. Its not really a hard question that requires testing or something of the sort...just quick tips on how to clean the computer.
I read somewhere that wipes help for the list and base and etc.
Oh and I'll pass on option 1 (not use the keyboard) haha.
Also, I'm be frank. I don't typically buy computer programs whether virus scanners or what not. But with this TP, I think I will do so...but at the same time I don't want to spend $100 or more. So what I'm asking is that what programs do you think are very beneficial to get to help with general use of the computer (that means protecting it, cleaning it from spyware, etc.) I have norton, which came installed, and spybot. I've had bad experience with Adaware but I may install it agian.
Thanks slagmi also for letting people know that Search isn't the best tool at times...most of the results, like you said, were not even relevant....which makes it difficult.
Thanks for the help all!

Sorry, didn't mean to be flippant
I don't use water at all (unless it is distilled, that is). Most undistilled water will contain minerals, etc. that can be a bit harmful to an LCD screen. At least that's what I've read. I use screen wipes designed for LCDs. They're called AF Laptop-Clene, and you use one tissue (wet) to wipe clean and the other (dry) to 'buff'. I usually only do it one every few months. In the meantime, I use my Screensavr from Radtech to remove dust. For the keys and case, I just use a standard computer wet-wipe (anti-static).
Enjoy that new thinkpad!
