New BIOS and embedded controller for X31/32 available

#1 Post by nik » Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:49 pm

Just installed them via the Software Installer. No problems. No perceptible changes in operation either. The change summaries list some minor things:

-Enhance safety with an unsupported battery
-Enhancement of security function on power-on: When hard drive password is set, regardless of other passwords settings, Wake On Lan from power off state does not work.
-Update CPU microcode.

Does this means that you have to use IBM/Lenovo batteries. If so what if you go someplace where an OEM battery is unavalable or in time, Lenovo goes belly up?

It could also mean that it places battery temperature monitoring in the BIOS, rather than on the battery's microcontroller, so that if the battery doesn't halt charging when it overheats, the BIOS handles it.
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)

I just update the bios on my x31 and now the sound still comes out of my speakers on laptop base unit even when headphones are plugged in!

Darn!

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers
