Another T43 Screen Question

I just got my T43 2686E7U delivered a couple of days ago. So far, I'm real happy with my choice: it's small and well-adapted to my computing needs, and the fan noise (the one place I had my fingers crossed) does not seem to be an issue so far.

The only place I'm less than happy is with the SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen resolution. I don't have any problem with the viewing angle, but fonts and icons show up awfully small, and it's tough on middle-aged eyes. A lot of web pages that I'm used to seeing fill the screen now end up crowded into the left half, etc.

I've started tinkering with settings, playing around with font dpi, dropping the resolution down to 800 x 600, 1028 x 768, etc, but I still have not found the ideal configuration. It gets to be time-consuming, with so many different permutations and the need for rebooting after making certain adjustments.

Anyone care to share any hints, combinations of settings that worked for them, etc? If somebody out there has already invented the wheel, I'd just as soon not try to reinvent it.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

I wouldn't change the resolution, it will make everything look fuzzy and probably harder to read. Right-Click on the Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Font Size: Extra Large. If you want it even larger, go to advanced, and set each object to a higher font (Icon, Message Box, ect..)

When open web pages,click View->Text Size->Largest.The text of web pages will be large enough to see,I guest.
So,if you are not used to SXGA screen,I think you should change for another one which is XGA screen.This will be good for your eyes.

I use DPI setting of 120 and Firefox for browsing. With Firefox, you can toggle the size of the fonts with ctrl+ and ctrl-. I also take advantage of the extra screen area by turning on View-> Sidebar->Bookmarks. The web-page gets pushed back toward the center of the screen.

For some websites, like CNN.com, they have a fixed width resolution of 800. I don't know if there is anything you can do with that.

Some people have tried a third party program, like LiquidView, for scaling everything. 30 days free trial here:

Unfortunately, SXGA+ and above are of limited usefulness if you default to full-screen windows (with the exception of excel, photoshop, programming consoles, etc.).

Higher resolutions really shine when you work with multiple applications simultaneouly.

If web pages look too small for comfort, I recommend DPI adjustments and Liquidview, as others have already mentioned here. Unfortunately, the consensus is that there is no 'perfect' solution even using these measures.

For today only, Aug 30, you can get a free registration code for the Opera browser to avoid the ad bar. The site is very busy right now:

You can also go to download.com to get it.
Opera allows you to enlarge/zoom the whole page including the graphics. It should help with some of those fixed width sites.

While some of these are good suggestions, there are a couple of things you should do first.

1.) Right click on desktop -> propterties -> settings -> advanced -> general :
and change the DPI setting to large.

This should help things, and you can increase it even more if that's not enough.

2.) Go to this website: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/down ... rtoys.mspx
and download the cleartype tuner powertoy.

This should also make things easier to read.

I wouldn't change the resolution of the screen, because the sxga is optimized to show the clearest picture at 1400x1050. If you change it from there, the picture will be much less sharp. If that's ok with you, then ok, but things won't look nearly as good.

You can also try enlarging the font in the appearance tab, but I'd do that next.

There might be other things, like the liquidview thing people are suggesting. If nothing works, you might be better off with an xga screen. You might be able to exchange it, but I would try these options before giving up.

Download mozilla firefox and use it instead ie

Firefox allows you maximize the page size (ctrl +) and works fine.
