IBM Software Installer problems

#1 Post by Filip » Wed Aug 31, 2005 1:01 pm

Today I entered into the Software Installer and the program asked me to update itself. Now it's the v.3.14.0508 (release date: 31.08.2005). OK... but when I enter in this new version the program encounters an error and needs to close. Any suggestions?

Make sure you have your proxies set if any. I had similar problems with my work proxy. When I went home, it worked fine.

Nice to know I am not alone. It collapses when it's searching for new contents on the web? I tried reinstalling it but with no effect. Don't know what to do.

I don't think there is a proxy problem, because I don't use any.

Any other suggestions?

It seems many are encountering this problem...though I guess I am the first to experience it 4 ~ 5 months ago.

Download RegScrub and see if it solves the problem. It just might work.

Has anyone not had this problem? Now I am very wary of installing the new version.

I installed the new version today, using the previous version of Software Installer. It seemed to install fine. It indicated that there was a BIOS update available, but I chose not to install the BIOS update at this time.

Yes. Completely identical to my problem..
Maybe it affects only the T43 machines  , but I don't believe in it.

I am trying another way. Go to IBM ThinkVantege and download ThinkVantege System Update. It looks it has all functions of Software Installer. And it WORKS.

Besides the point that ThinkVantege System Update is a 40mb download and runs on Java and is versy slow in doing anything
There apparently are having some problems with some servers today. I have had hit and miss all day with both SW and ThinkVantege System Update.

Maybe there is the problem in their server. But I didn't notice anyone else reporting the problem at the time. The second strange thing is that SI didn't work but on the other side the SU did work. Strange for a server issue. Unless they use more servers for updates, which I doubt.

What is the wireless adapter in the machines that are failing? I am having the same problem on one of my systems and have narrowed it down to SWI failing when searching for new drivers and comes to the driver for my cisco wireless. It is also the last driver listed in my connect log in C:\drivers

I have Intel PRO/wireless 2915abg Network Connection with driver v9.0.1.21.

I restored my system to previous state (base backup) and will try SI as soon as a get to my network. (momentarily I am away using my Nokia for connection).

I will let you know what I find out.
