T42p Not Booting (Again!) (2373 KTU)

#1 Post by ruykava » Wed Aug 31, 2005 6:19 pm

hi all, this is the second time i've had this problem in about 3 months!

my Thinkpad is a 2373 KTU (specs below).

everything was working fine. but today when i tried starting up, the power seems to come on, the fans whirl, the NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK lights come on briefly, the DVD drive spins a little, then NOTHING. it just stays there with a blank screen. and i'm sure the computer is not starting up as well, because there is no HDD spinning sound. however the "Power On" (green "Z" light) stays on, and i can clearly hear the fan.

i've tried removing battery and the DVD-RAM (not sure what that was for but perhaps feeling hopeful), and putting them back one by one but nothing works.

the first time this happened, i was in the UK and got it back in 2 weeks from IBM Servicing, but they never mentioned what was wrong with it.

the only thing i did differently yesterday was to use the internal wifi, which hadn't been turned on for about a month.

i'd like to know if there's a particular problem here, that can be permanently solved. tried searching the forums but although i found the thread about T22 problems, not sure if that applies to the T42p as well.

any help would be hugely appreciated.

thanks!
