help cleaning out the software update directories

#1 Post by blade12 » Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:51 pm

Ive noticed that the software updater keeps around old install files for drivers and other software that it has already updated. Is there quick a way of cleaning all these out? The filenames are not exactly intuitive, and it seems very tedious to search through the driver directories manually.

Any advice would be appreciated.

No quick way I know of. I rename the extraction folder by adding an intuitave name in front of the given filename. I have been doing that all along, so that I delete older folders of the same purpose. I also put all the updates in a folder WINXPP under Drivers and I put all the initial drivers in Preload under Drivers. So when I look at Drivers, it has two folders and when I look at WINXPP, it has only the current drivers and applications. Tedious at times, but the rest of the time, I know exactly what I have.

All I can think of is to go by file dates. Delete the really old ones.
