least expensive DVD burner for T42p?
I'm finding the IBM website to be a bit confusing. Could there be any more multi-slim-enhanced-ultrabay options? Jeez!
I just an inexpensive DVD burner that fits my T42p. I'm not a DVD ripper, so it doesn't have to be blazing fast. I just need it to back up a few files.
What model and price options do I have?

If you want an ultra bay drive from IBM it is going to cost you over $200.
You could buy an external DVD Burner OR an internal DVD Burner and an external enclosure. Those are your least expensive options.

IBM T42P 2373-KUU: Pentium-M 755 2.0Ghz | 14.1" SXGA+ TFT active matrix
128mb ATI Mobility FireGL T2 | 1GB PC2700 ram | 60GB 7200RPM

Have you considered the external Asus slim dvd-rw drive? You can find the specs here: http://usa.asus.com/products/optical/sd ... erview.htm
It's got a great design that works very well with my thinkpad. I usually don't carry it around with me as 1.) it merits an external power supply, and 2.) I use it so rarely for large backups that it's best waiting at home with my docking station. However for $150 bucks (newegg) you really can't go wrong.

If I stick to IBM's accessories, which is the least expensive drive that will work with my T42p? Are there any of these drives I should stay away from? Any "out of production"?

Re: least expensive DVD burner for T42p?
you can find the "super multi 4X DVD+-R for IBM Ultrabay Slim" after October(maybe).
if want Drive into Ultrabay slim, must purchase " UJ-812, 822 or 832 for IBM use", normal standard Drive cant use for Ultrabay Slim.
