How to define a dead pixel?

#1 Post by GoyoNeuff » Tue Jun 29, 2004 7:43 am

I've been using Jim's Thinkpad Resources recommended deadpix.exe to check for dead pixels. I've found that when running screen in two colors I don't have any dead pixels, but when running screen at red color I've one black point (dead pixel), and when running green color I've another black point (dead pixel) but at different location, i.e., it isn't the same as the one that showed up when running red screen.

Why one pixel turns black in one color when it is OK under the other three colors? It is this a real "dead pixel"?

Should be enough having these two "semi-dead pixels" to return my lApToP?

Thanks a lot,

:D

K.

Not a big problem.

One or two dead or stuck pixels in not bad at all. There are ALOT of pixels there and a few are not bad. Bad is when you have a group of bad pixels in one area.

I don't know if IBM will even do anything about a few dead pixels.

I'm somewhat bemused by all the searching and looking for dead pixels. My theory has always been to look at the screen using the software I use every day. If there's a honking big problem right in the middle of my screen, I'll see it. If I don't see anything, it's not a problem.

I honestly think a lot of the new owners are taking some of the pleasure out of their new babies by looking for flaws.

Hear hear! Or 'been there, done that' in that I aired the same views, if not so eloquently, some time ago. Of course, sitting here typing on my faultless 15" screened T42 I CAN say that, can't I - anyway I think we should give some thought to the families of all those dead pixies...

You can return your TP within 30 days either for a replacement or refund.

G-man

Might be worth mentioning that this wonderful 30 day return is for people living in America. Although it begins with the same letter, Auch DOES NOT benefit from this gaurantee...

I once had a Sony Trinitron CRT monitor for a couple of years until someone pointed out the faint line across it from the aperature grill. It wasn't particularly objectional, to be sure, but it was there, and from then on I couldn't help but notice it every time I used the monitor.

I suspect dead and stuck pixels would be no different. If they "bug" you now, they'll bug you forever.

I had one defective light blue pixel at the bottom right of my screen - a problem since I run a lot of black securities charts and my eye was pulled to it. IBM replaced the screen - no questions asked. I am glad I got the 3 year in home service warranty (if you use it once - it's worth it). Robyn

I see your point and I have to agree. The gap and battery thing would have never bothered me had I not read about it.

I agree big time and this was well said. I attempted to say that also a few weeks ago. At the same time I was thinking about what hausman said and the Sony monitor. It would suck if another T series user came up to my computer and found a dead pixel that I had not noticed and pointed it out to me. For everyday after or every time I used what ever program that showed the dead pixel I would probably be beating myself saying "if only I had checked". That is the thing about these posts. They are educational on every aspect of the Thinkpads the good and the bad. The pixels issue has been raised so much that I without a doubt will look for pixels. It is a must now for me.
