If Thinkpad Quality were to go DOWN, which notebook to buy?

I'm interested in seeing what Apple cooks up on the x86 front. Other than that, if Sony pulls their head out of the sand and offer extra batteries and power supplies for less than $250, some of the VAIOs seem pretty good as well, quality-wise.
