Wireless problems?

#1 Post by Trip » Sat Sep 03, 2005 7:12 pm

I've been having some really annoying problems with my T42 since I've been using it. Periodically, my internet connection just seems to 'hang' - every web page I try to go to times out, and my IM services sometimes disconnect. The wireless connection, however, remains active.

Sometimes this goes away after a few minutes, and it's always fixed once I repair the connection through Windows. I have the same problem with the drivers that came with the computer and the latest drivers from Intel. The new ones actually seem to make the problem worse.

Unfortunately, I can't be sure that this isn't a router problem, as I have nothing else to test this with yet. The other laptop in the house doesn't have this problem, though.

Has anybody had similar problems, or any information on this issue?

It's more likely it is your internet connection that is unreliable, especially if it's a DSL. Your wireless connection to the router can show "Excellent" signal strength at full speed, but just think of it as a hard-wired cable between your computer and modem.

Errata: I just re-read your post. If the problem isn't duplicated on another machine, I'm clueless.

PPS: I think it's a router problem. Mine used to drop periodically, and I recall changing a timeout setting somewhere in the security settings (Linksys).
