Quality concern issue on the T4*
Just wanted to put this out and get any feedback.
I've noticed that if you rest your elbow on the left side of the handrest, you negatively affect your graphic card (your resolution will kick down to 640x480 until you lift your elbow). Anyone try this?
Also, I have a co-worker who killed his T40 by pressing down with his palm on the right side of the palm rest.
I find the front area of the T42 is very flimsy and you can cause the casing to creak with very little effort. Doesn't seem as well built as my X series machines. On the X20s and X30s, you can apply as much force possible to the palm rest area because underneath is only the battery compartment.

Pushing down with the weight of his HAND or pushing down with the weight of his whole body?dmdsoftware wrote: Also, I have a co-worker who killed his T40 by pressing down with his palm on the right side of the palm rest.

Really? That's disappointing. I was looking forward to parking a chevy on mine, but after this shocking last minute revelation about the product's limitations I may have to return it and get some bricks instead.BillMorrow wrote:i'll bet if one were to park a chevy on the palm rest it will affect a lot more than just the video..
Let's not be hasty. Maybe "palmrest" means "elbowrest" in another language. Though personally, I can't imagine a typing position where my elbow is on the palm rest.BillMorrow wrote: what part of "palm rest" is confusing..?
I'm still curious whether the problem arose with only the weight of his HAND resting on the palmrest, which would indicate a problem, or if he's pushing down on the palmrest HARD with the full weight of his upper body which seems like it's asking for trouble, IMHO.

I've never seen this on my T43 and as a dorm tech who has seen about 10+ T series in operation, I've never heard of this problem either...you better have yours checked out. On the other hand, I've never found the need to put my whole elbow on the palmrest...dmdsoftware wrote:Just wanted to put this out and get any feedback.

That shouldn't happen either, although as there is a hard drive under the right side of the T4x, you might want to ask him if he was by "pressing" he really meant "slamming" (I have killed a hard drive like that before, many years ago, bad memory...Also, I have a co-worker who killed his T40 by pressing down with his palm on the right side of the palm rest.
