Question about hdd upgrade!

#1 Post by sco1984 » Sun Sep 04, 2005 7:21 am

Hello,
I am using IBM Thinkpad R50e-1834-EQ1 series laptop.
Bought 1 month ago and under warranty. I am planning to upgrade
hdd to 80 GB. A lady at laptop shop told me, if i add 80 gb hdd and
remove 40 gb hdd, warranty of laptop voids. Is that true? :(
I asked to 1 of my friend who using Thinkpad, he said no warranty
remains. Well but that friend of mine havent done that thing. Waiting to hear comments. And oh yes if i also upgrade RAM too applies same
condition ?

Regards,
Amey.

Good morning Amey.

My opinion is that if you replace any FRU units, the warranty still is valid. Best to call an IBM techie and ask them. I have replaced my HD of 30 g with a 40 g one. I kept the original HD as it was and if need be to send for warranty repairs, I would place back in the TP the original HD.

What they do not know will not hurt them.

Any FRU or CRU are listed in the IBM site for your Thinkpad.

Have fun. JP.
Two Thinkpads G-41.
Thinkpad i Series 1200 and 3 1300.
Thinkpad 365 XD ( exchanged for a $100 rebate ).
All on WiFi and Ultra VNC. Have fun ! I do.

That lady is talking nonsense. Of course your warranty won't be voided.
