Disabling wireless on t42 - need help

#1 Post by jerseysteve » Sun Sep 04, 2005 7:49 am

Hi _ I own a T42 2373-3uu that has an a-b-g wireless card - is there anyway to safely take out the wireless card? (I don't need my employees surfing!). I would like to keep the bluetooth if possible.
Thanks

You can remove the card (find the hardware manual - it's under the palmrest on my T41). Or you can disable the card (wireless connectoid in the Network Connections folder) and then set the userid for the employees to be restricted. Don't forget there is an on-board wired connection as well. ... JD Hurst

It is not particularly difficult. You need the hardware manual for your machine to help locate the screws and to lay out the procedure. I expect the machine will boot just fine, but you might wish to uninstall the adapter first in Device Manager, and then shut down (do not restart) and remove the card. ... JD Hurst

Wouldn't there be an Option to disable the WLAN-Card in the BIOS-Setup? As the ThinkPads are for employees, the BIOS would be password-protected, so they couldn't enter it and re-enable the WLAN.

Personally i would find this solution easier then to remove X0 WLAN-Cards and store them somewhere. (if you wouldn't sell them)

Even if you just disable the Wireless NIC in software, a restricted user cannot enable it (that was what I was mentioning above). ... JDH
