ThinkPad R52 & Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-830S region problems

I am using a ThinkPad R52 that has a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-830S.
The drive is configured for region 2 playback.

In order to view region 1 dvds, I used to install DVD-region free program (without altering the drive's firmware), that bypassed the region lock.

With this drive, I cannot manage to playback any region 1 disc.

If I connect an external, firewire DVD-recorder (NEC ND-3520A), there are no problems with region 1 playback.

So it's the UJ-830S's fault.

Any help?

Did you try DVD Region Killer? Might be worth it before trying to find a Firmware.
