Hard Drive upgrade for a T42

#1 Post by milesrbruce » Mon Sep 05, 2005 10:27 am

I am close to purchasing the T42 23733UU, but have oe question. The machine has all the options I am looking for, with the exception of the hard drive.

The hard drive on this unit is a 40 GIG 54OO RPM. I would like to upgrade the hard drive to a 60 GIG 7200 RPM. IBM is telling me you cannot upgrade the harddrive at the time of purchase because this is a pre-config unit.

My question is, can I buy a 60 or 80 GIG, 7200 RPM hard drive from IBM and swap the hard drive out once I buy the unit? If so, how would I get all the software, drivers etc. onto the new hard drive? By swapping the drive, would this void warranty?

What I would also like to know, is if you buy a hard disk from a store (not from IBM), if this would void warranty.

For your question (how to restore), there is a sticky with steps how to do it.

*sigh* I've said this many times...

NO, it will NOT void your warranty. You can buy a hard drive from zipzoomfly or from other retailers, not necessarily from IBM.
