Two 600e's with power problems?!?
Hi all,
I am new to this forum, and hope that you guys will be able to help me. I have two 600e's that I am trying to rebuild:
1. 2645-BAU - This laptop was working when I got it. I had a universal adapter hooked up to it until the correct adapter arrived. Everything was working fine, until my very sweet little innocent 3 years came tearing through the room (one more argument for my wife of why I should be working in my office) and tripped over the power cord, pulling it out of the back of the laptop. Now when I try to boot the computer, with ANY AC adapter, all of the LEDs turn on then the machine turns off. (I have not been able to test with a working battery, because I sold my last one) I have completely dissasembled the laptop and checked the motherboard for apparent damage and cannot find any. I have also traded out the CPU/Fan and the Sub Sub card, to no avail.
2. 2646-? (portion of label missing) - This laptop I purchased off of eBay as a nonworking laptop for $40 (including shipping) This laptop will not power on in any fashion (ie. no lights or power at all). I have tried everything on this one that I tried on the above listed laptop, and still no go.
Hopefully, I will be able to test these with a battery tomorrow, when someone that I previously sold a laptop to, will be able to lend me their battery. (but the answer from this person has been "tomorrow" for a few days now...hehehe
Any suggestions?

Whizkid, thanks for the post. I have read through the HMM many times (call it my bible if you will). However, even though they explain the LED lights, they don't explain either of these symptoms.
I am pretty sure that it might be the motherboard on both, but I am hoping that I am missing something. Sometimes it is something that is staring you right in the face. For example, one of the first 600Es that I worked on had a problem with only the power LED coming on but nothing else would turn on. (ie. fan, HD, display, etc.). After working on several more, it turned out that somehow there was a little piece of cat hair stuck between the cpu and the mobo, which I didn't see until I used compressed air.
