WTF is Express Card?
Am I stupid or what?
I never heard for it, and never found any products for that slot.

Its like your PCMCIA card, but smaller.
And with more bandwith (Not really helpful)

Reading a technical paper 2 links away (off the Wikipedia article; look for the PDF), it appears that the PCI Express interface for the ExpressCard will use the standard 2.5Gbps data transfer lane, two-way. No, that's not a typo.
Well ... this ought be an improvement over Cardbus. Wonder how fast it will move 512mb of MP3s on to my CF memory card.

When I first saw that bit about 2.5GBps Data Transfer, I was pretty shocked too.

I think that Gbps quote is a bit hyped. Just started reading something a bit more grounded.

Ah, maybe THIS is where the hype comes from:

EDITPC Mag wrote: (2.17.04) Enter ExpressCard, a smaller, faster, cheaper solution. ExpressCard will have the theoretical maximum throughput to transfer data at a whopping 250 MBps (actually, 500 MBps total; 250 MBps to the computer in one direction and 250 MBps to the card in the other). This is in comparison to the now seemingly sluggish 132-MBps PC Card standard.
ExpressCard's throughput is ideal for video transfers and uncompressed files. To compare it with throughputs you're familiar with: Gigabit Ethernet has a throughput of 125 MBps, FireWire 800 (seen only in new Apple notebooks so far) runs at 100 MBps, and USB 2.0 can reach 60 MBps.
Ah, maybe THIS is where the hype comes from:
Well, since ExpressCards haven't hit my corner 'tronics boutique yet, I feel a little relieved that I didn't waste money on a TP Dock II and PCI Firewire 800 card.PC Mag wrote:ExpressCard can't attain its top speed of 250 MBps without the upcoming PCI Express bus technology. This has the same bandwidth potential as ExpressCard: 250 MBps in each of two directions, reaching up to 4 GBps in future iterations. It succeeds PCI, which topped out at 132 MBps (total, both directions).
