T42 does not start following shipment

#1 Post by Charles Krug » Tue Sep 06, 2005 1:38 pm

A 2378-DUU (about 13 months old) just arrived from the sales office on the opposite coast, overnighted via Fedex. When it's powered, the status indicators (except HD) flash briefly -- seems normal. The battery indicator (flashing green) & power on indicator remain on. That is the extent of start up -- no sound, nothing at all on the screen, no HD indicator activity.
The machine was working before shipment -- it was overnighted because we have an immediate need for a notebook for a new account rep. The warranty has expired. It could have been packaged better, though I think it should have survived the trip. Is there anything to be checked before it's sent off for repair? Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

You could try to remove the battery and put it back in and try it again... You could also reseat the memory and maybe the hard drive and DVD/CDRW also.

 If it still does not turn on and it does need repair, you could try to get FedEx Claims to cover it. There is quite a bit of paperwork involved including proof of packaging and the package must have been insured...

Hi Len,
I did try reseating components, but no luck. I sent it to a repair shop immediately following my post, since we need the PC ASAP. I expect to file a claim with the shipper. Thanks for the post & the pm, which I'll keep for the future.
Jim
