Connecting T42 w/ ATI 9600 to HDTV @ Max Resolution

#1 Post by pianoprodigy » Tue Sep 06, 2005 1:47 pm

I just got my Samsung HDTV that does not have a VGA input. I hooked into the TV via S-Video but only got 1024x768 resolution. The TV does have a DVI input. I found a VGA to DVI converter that I plan on using. Will this provide a better resolution?

How did you hook your Thinkpad up to the TV (especially HDTV)?
T42 2373-3XU - $1840 - She served me well for almost 5 years
T400 on order as of 11/18/09 - $1400 (including Intel SSD) - P8700, 4GB RAM, 80GB X25G2 SSD (I upgraded), 3470 256MB
T420s - loaded, still in use as secondary machine
T440p - loaded, primary

Ok, I'm going to borrow a quality VGA to DVI cable from my brother's work to test it out tonight.

1080i is the max resolution of my TV which is 1920x1080.

Anyone know what the ATI Moibility Radeon 9600's limit is? I know my display is 1400x1050, but I imagine the card itself has a greater resolution potential.

Any input?

Hi
I have a similar T42 and am looking to do the same with a 26 or 32" LCD. Anyone know what the best way is to get native pixel resolution out of the 9600? 1366x768 and up to match the TV?
Cheers
Sam

Why don't you use the t42 with the port replicator which has a DVI port?

Actually, I brought my mini-dock home from work last night and hooked up my T42 to the TV through the DVI port. I'm still not really happy with the text clarity, and I can't figure out how to run the TV at 1920x1080 as the primary monitor. I've downloaded the Omega drivers. I can get my laptop panel to work at 1400x1050 and extend my desktop onto the TV at 1920x1080. That works fine for showing video (drag the Windows Media Player onto the other desktop), but it sucks for just about everything else.

Hi
Look on the net for ATI TRAY TOOLS. It allows you to make all sorts of adjustments to your video output. It will do the resolution you are looking for.

You should take a look at your TV's manual for what resolutions and refresh rates it accepts. Depending on the size of the tv, most RPTV/DLP's only accept a 1024x768 resolution (so for a widescreen tv, it's stretched).
