Had it working but messed it up!

#1 Post by Dickie2679 » Tue Sep 06, 2005 3:04 pm

I had my TP 760E working fine with windows 98SE, but after messing about with audio drivers, I was getting a error message at startup - so I formatted my hard drive & now can't get the windows 98 cd to boot & install. I did this when I bought the 760E,(last week) but must be doing something wrong. I have a cd drive & a floppy drive, but can't use them at the same time, if I try to install the cd drivers from floppy, I get a message telling me that there is no device fitted.

I've done the once, where am I going wrong?

When you have a formatted drive, the trick is to boot DOS and ge the DOS system copied to your hard drive so you can boot DOS from the hard drive. You'll also want to make sure the CD drivers are on the hard drive as well. From there, boot the computer to DOS with the cd drivers from the hard drive with the CD drive installed in place and you'll be ready to go.

Sorry, but can you give me a step by step, I've been messing with this for hours.

Thanks

I found this, http://kb.iu.edu/data/ajgd.html but I must have put a extra space in somewhere, as I still get 'invalid system disk' error message when I fit the cd drive back in.

Here, see if these instructions work, they are very similar to what I've done in the past on a 760ED I had way back when.

This will hopefully work. However, if you do still get the invalid disk error, I do believe that there's some additional instrution in the page addressing that.
