Dead pixels, Alive
Dead pixels, Alive
I've got an odd problem...
Occasionally, I will notice a stuck subpixel or pixel on my screen (new T42, 2378FVU) after hours of use. The problem is that these dead pixels seem to be "alive." Often, they change from only broken subpixels to a wholly dead pixel (in the same location). Also, they always seem to go away after a reboot (but not suspend). Furthermore, the pixels don't appear to be physically dead because they work fine if I switch to magnified mode (fn-space). I have never seen more than one at a time, and they always seem to occur in different locations.
Any ideas? Bad connection or cable somewhere? Faulty cable, video card? Software/driver issue?
I'm running all of the updates from IBM's site + windowsupdate, along with the latest Intel chipset drivers, and ATI Catalyst 4.6 (using the mobility inf modder).

I once had a stuck on pixel that would disappear sometimes when I cleaned the screen. Turned out if I ran my finger accross the screen in a particular direction (barely touching the screen) I could make the stuck pixel disappear. Don't ask me why. I have never seen a dead pixel (stuck off) come back... but your mileage may vary.Hangfire wrote:I appear to have a single "stuck" pixle. Is there a fix?

if you do the "rubbing technique" it may/may not work. most likely won't. there's actually no "technqiue" to it. it's analagous to hitting a tv if the reception is bad. if you do it, you chance getting more busted/stuck pixels and maybe scratches on your lcd.
if it's under 30day, send it back and get a new one. it's just that simple. or call 800ibmserv, im sure they can do something about it -- if it's not just a stuck or dead pixel, but if it goes on and off constantly.. that's quite ridiculous.
