2681-CTO Keyboard problems

#1 Post by n5rkn » Thu Sep 08, 2005 7:01 am

I'm visiting my kids, and my grandson just acquired a used Thinkpad 2681-CTO. However, the keyboard has a major problem. Certain keys pressed will select multiple letters or numbers. And, often I can't move the cursor without pop up windows from Windows coming constantly up and not allowing for anything to be selected.
At first I thought it was riddled with viruses and spyware. But, a long drawn out process of finally getting to the cd and my cd files (fortunately brought along for vacation) showed no known viruses per McAfee or Norton. And, some minor spyware apps, which I was able to remove.

One suggestion was that perhaps something was spilled into the keyboard of the Thinkpad.

As all the software came preloaded, with XP Pro and Office, I have no easy way of doing a full fdisk, format and full reinstallation of the OS.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Robert (up in northern NY...visiting from West Texas)
