R40E and XP Reload

#1 Post by axslinger » Fri Sep 09, 2005 12:37 am

Greetings,

I'm trying to reload XP on a TP R40E. The problem is that when I get to the point of entering the product key, the keyboard doesn't work! Nothing, no keys work.

I've run lower level diagnostics and the KB is fine. Iv'e booted to a PE disk and it works fine. I've run the built-in diags and it works fine there also. Is there a trick to loading XP on this machine? I am loading from a generic OEM XP CD. I do this all the time on desktops without issue. Any ideas?

Brian

It may well be that special drivers for you computer are needed and not on the generic CD. You may have to buy the recovery disks from IBM to get it to work.

For insurance purposes I recently bought the recovery disks for my R40 which I bought as a refurb and which had the operating system on the hidden partition and did not include recovery CDs.
