Memory Replacement

#1 Post by sortsol » Fri Sep 09, 2005 11:23 am

Sorry if this is a re-post, I did a search and couldn't find any information. I know the one memory stick on the bottom of the machine is simple to access and replace on a T42.

My question is if it is possible to access the other memory slot on the computer.

What I'm getting at, memory is cheaper if it isn't ordered from IBM. It's about 1/2 the price from Crucial. So, I would like to order the least amount if memory from IBM (256 mb) and replace both slots with a 1 gb stick after my machine arrives, but I don't know if it's possible to access the slot where they stick the memory that comes with the machine.

Thanks,

Mike

I am pretty sure it is. I haved looked into this because I'm getting a T41p soon, and I know that in the T41p you can replace the stock memory. You have to lift the keyboard to do this, but it should be a painless operation.
Go to IBM's website and search for "T42 RAM movie" or "T42 RAM video".

Also, download the T42 Hardware Maintenance Manual (again, find it by doing a search), and print out the relevant information for when you need it.

Yea, the first (some would call it a second) memory modual is located under the keyboard. I removed my keyboard when I first got my T43 and it's very easy to do. Just refer to the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
