change t42p

#1 Post by stapol » Wed Jun 30, 2004 12:15 am

I find 3 dead pixels in my t42p 23737-XU and plan to change with new laptop :( . Is it still normal in range to get 3 dead pixels for lcd screen ?
What information or document do I need to put in the box beside the machine and all acessories itself ?
One more thing, how much do u guys pay for shipping return and what company do u use ?

Thx U

sorry to hear that...

I used UPS. I believe it was $12 dollars (uninsured) or so.
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

I used Fedex gorund and it was around $11 fully insured. If I were you I would not send it without insurance...nothing like losing $2500 because a shipping company destroyed it.

hum... I am not sure how policies are in such case.

I would call IBM (choose the business option in the phone, I usually get a more experienced agent) and ask about that.
Maybe you should return it and then buy another as opposed to exchange... like I say I do not know.

Regarding UPS vs Fedex, I have to make a correction, it was $8.70 for me to ship it uninsured through UPS ground (3 days). You can check the prices in both their pages however.

(My T42p packet was 11.78lbs and 18"x16"x9")

You should definetly complain about the bad pixels, and then (very important) utilize you 30 day money back option.

3 dead pixels are within the specs. of what IBM finds to be acceptable, so you will properly only be vasting (valuable) time trying to make an exchange.

I think that your best options is to return the product, on the 30 days money back, and the go and buy a new one (find a dealer where you can check it before you take it home).
