Trackpoint freezes after installing Windows XP Pro for 240x
My red (accu)trackpoint\mouse freezes after installing Windows XP Pro for my Thinkpad 240x. If I don't move the trackpoint when the Login screen appears, my mouse would not move after I login and therefore I only have the keyboards to use.
However, when I move the mouse when the login screen apperas, then my trackpoint will work. Does any one have a fix to this, I've updated all the Windows Update and all the 240x drivers that are needed in WinXP Pro??
I've also uninstall the general mouse in the Control Panel and the system aut0-detects it upon the next boot up but I still get the same problem.
I also looked up IBM for latest drivers but there's none for WinXP as WinXP default drivers are suppose to handle this. I also tried doing a search on the internet and I found nothing specific to my problem. I've looked into the Event Viewer for the error and it says "An error occured while trying to acquired the device ID of the mouse" Source is i8402prt.
I need help ask I can't use WinXP without a working trackpoint. Thanks

Feb 2008=Thinkpad X61s; 2x faster than X40 but not as asthetic.
Dec 2005=Thinkpad X40; perfect, but bigger than 240x.
Jan 2005=Thinkpad 240x; used; fast but dead pixels doomed it.
2003=Thinkpad 240; used,
1998=new Toshiba Tecra 740CDT. Pricey, heavy & last 5 year.

frozen track point
Hi,
I have this problem off and on after inserting a Buffalo Wireless
Card running XP Pro. My solution is to go into hibernation wait 2-3 seconds then hit the function key and all is well.
As I said this only happens off and on on both my 240Xs
The WiFi works great at about 54.0Mbps on public and my encripted networks

First of all, you need to be running BIOS version 1.08 or newer.
Get it all here: Software and Device Drivers - ThinkPad 240, 240X, 240Z
You should also install the Windows XP installation supplement files.Symptom corrected by version 1.08 - 1.03.22
(New) Support for Microsoft Windows XP.
(New) Power Management Update - enhancement of CPU thermal controls.
Symptom corrected by version 1.09 - 1.03.23
(Fix) (Windows 2000/XP) DTR and RTS signal levels in serial port are always high.

Track point Freeze
Hi,
Yes I have The Supplimental files loaded but have been not updated the BIOS. I've read too many horror stories after flashing. I have choosen to live with an occasional freeze.
I should try it but I don't want to kill another 240X, they are getting harder to find. Thanks, Mike.

Killing a TP with a BIOS update is pretty hard, if done correctly.
Most horror stories are from people that try to update the BIOS without following the instructions, or bypassing certain measures. As long as you have a good battery, good AC Adapter, and the CORRECT version of BIOS update, it should go quite smoothly.
