100GB 7200RPM Drive

I recently read that IBM is shipping laptops with this drive. Can someone enlighten us on the manu/model? Is this the new hitachi? 7200 RPM?

yes, they are shipping the new Hitachi 7K100 100gb 7200rpm drive.

yes..

in the 2668Q2U and other T43p models..
i have some Q2U arriving monday and tuesday..

Anyone know if IBM (or anyone else) is selling them yet? Not the entire systems, just the drives.

I see Hitachi discontinued the 7k60 (or so most distributors claim), wonder why mess with a winning product.

I've owned both the 7K60 and the 7K100, and from my personal experience the 7K100 is superior in every respect: faster, quieter, more reliable (so they claim), etc. I saw an 80gb ATA 7K100 go for $250 on eBay while several 100gb 7K100's went for $400. even the 7K60 is going for $200 since it's in such short supply (60gb 5400rpm drives are going for less than half that).

$337!!!! for the seagate 100GB 7200rpm on newegg. I'm gonna have to wait for the prices to come down a little.

prices have gotten better, and I just saw this review of the 7K100 and 7200.1... looks like the Hitachi winds hands-down:
