Two Models are shown. The Z60t and the Z60m.
Z60m has a 15-inch 1280 x 800 pixel display.
Z60t has a 14-inch, 1280 x 768 pixel display.
Reminds me alot of the widescreen powerbook in terms of layout and size.

only if they have higer resolutions screen, it would be great and I might switch to it from my T43P.
And looks like there's windows key on the keyboard. Keyboard layout seem to be the same as in T/R series. It would be interesting IF this keyboard with windows key can also be used in T series.

I concur with the many posts. TP users are power users and we demand more resolution! My 14.1 inch does 1400x1050 a 15 inch widescreen should certainly go higher res than that, much much higher, or at least a bit.

Do you honestly believe that they're going to have only one configuration? There will be standard and high resolution models, just as with the T43. I'll bet my life on it.
They might even have three resolutions (WXGA, WSXGA+, WUGA) as with the T43.
One drawback: might have to wait a bit for the higher res models. The T43 higher res models weren't even listed on the website until a few months ago.
power users... aside from some graphical designers (who'll get powerbooks anyway), people who prefer widescreen laptop arent what i'd call power users... just my two cents
can anybody give me a few GOOD reasons to get a widescreen? because i sure as hell cant come up with any... just like 17" laptops, it just doesn't make any sense

power users like programmer can have benefit on using widescreen by open 2 windows side by side; one is references and one is editor. More space on screen, more productivity.
And as i heard, Windows Vista will have a feature that show special toolbar on the side of the screen, you can use this extra space in widescreen to show them and still have the same space left as in 4:3 screen to do your work.

i spoke (rescued, actually, with a fast HDD replacement) to a previous customer yesterday and he was asking about the X series..
he likes it because he CAN open two pages, side by side..
while he does MOST of his work on a desktop with two displays (i use three!) at his office, there are times when he goes on the road (yesterday he was in chicago) when a wide format (1200x1900 or thereabouts) would be a boon to him..
and that is the only reason to have widescreen, IMO..
so when lenovo (len OH NO! as one hereabouts put it
) does bring this resolution to market they will have that market to sell into..
now h/p and others do a wide format but how many DO do 1200x1900..?
other, lesser resolutions, will be for gamers and movie buffs i think and not so much for serious WORK..

Well, that's just plain wrong. The 15-inch is 1680 x 1050.kkapoor wrote:Z60m has a 15-inch 1280 x 800 pixel display.

I just have my Thinkpad next to my desktop. Ultimate multitasking solution
1024x768 desktop (Very comfortable) and 1400x1050 Thinkpad (Good)
Then I see the widescreen fanboy flames from Gamefaqs, becuase I don't "WANT TO MARRY THE WIDESCREEN MONITOR AND HAVE BABYS FROM IT" (Want the page? I can send you the link for it). I do more on a 1400x1050 screen page scrolling wise than some weird widescreen, infact, I have never put two windows side by side ever, I alt-tab so much.

Just check the announcements posted in this thread, it's either WXGA (wide version of 1024x768) or WSXGA (wide version of 1400x1050)...

Hey guys,
There is a lot of mis-information floating around the net about the Z-series. I posted this in Thinkpad Hardware 'cuz I didn't see this section

Pricing, specs, sizes, weight, the whole nine yards
I don't have a Z60 in my hands yet, but soon

Been looking for a machine in this category for my boss -- don't thnk I've seen a wide screen with a higher res. While mainly considering 13" models, will wait for the official specs & see how the Z60t stacks up. The built-in EV-DO is a plus, though coverage is still pretty sparse. Choice will probably come down to either this or a Sony S480.

I read the article and the cat is now out of the bag. The end is near, I think, for the professional ThinkPad. Lenovo said, in part, "...will hopefully win over those of you who couldn’t deal with IBM’s stubborn reluctance to release a laptop with anything but a 4:3 display"
IBM's stubborn relunctance to produce fluff and low-end consumer wants is precisely what has made it (for over a decade) the best business laptops bar none. No one has ever been embarrassed by using a ThinkPad.
I see nothing wrong with producing a wide-screen display for those who want one - just that IBM worked with the business users first and produced tried and true technology that would work for those users. I just don't like Lenovo's reasoning.

I don't really get it. Why people always say 4:3 screen is for business and whenever they put widescreen in, it's not for business
It's not like TV that if you have 4:3 screen and display widescreen content, you lost lots of working space; have 2 black bars on top and bottom, or widescreen TV when display 4:3 content you have 2 black bars on the side.
With computer screen, you have more resolutions, more space to work on. Think about how many more columns you can view in excel with widescreen. Now which one is good for business?
And for the size of the unit. 14" widescreen is about the same width as in 15" T series and deep about the same or less than 14.1" T series. That's small and light already!
Talk about 3 USB, firewire, better speakers, memory card reader, (hopefully) same build quality, and same thinkvantage technology, lots of improvement over IBM's old models.
I just hope they will have WUXGA in 15.4" wide screen model, like in HP nw8240

I hope so too, but keep in mind that the Z60m is not designed to compete with the nw8240 IN ANY WAY. The 8240 is supposed to compete with a T43p, and nothing else from IBM/Lenovo's lineup.kanate wrote:I just hope they will have WUXGA in 15.4" wide screen model, like in HP nw8240
Right now no WUXGA is in the lineup for the Z60m, but I will ask if there are plans
