X20 compatible hard drive

#1 Post by x20_1978 » Tue Sep 13, 2005 2:36 pm

Hi. I've got an X20 and the hard drive needs to be replaced (it had been making the clicking death rattles for a couple of weeks). I have noticed that some people have put a Fujitsu or a Toshiba in their X20. How do you know if the specific hard drive is compatible with the X20? Also, do these non-IBM drives need to be fitted with an adapter to fit in the X20 or is the hard drive bay pretty standard? Thanks in advance for your help.

The necessary adaptor is already on your old hard drive - it's simply the caddy that the hard drive sits in.

Any 2.5" hard drive that uses PATA (not SATA) will work with your X20.

I've personally tried Toshiba, Fuji, Travelstar, and Hitachi drives in the X20s and X21s and they work perfect.

I prefer the Toshiba drives because they are ultra quiet.
