As above: Optimal amount of memory for R40 with XPSP2 ?
I currently have 512MB RAM (max is 1048). Would adding another 256 make much difference? Thanks.

I don't disagree with Dg on principle, but I have FreeMem Pro running, and in normally heavy use I never exceed about 400 Mb used. The sole exceptions are (1) large file copies which will use all available memory and (2) virtual machines (which, by definition are pigs). Do, of course, make your own choice. ... JD Hurst
Looks like you already got the ram, however, depending on what motherboard and chipset is in your R40, you may be able to use more than 1048 meg of ram. The reason I state this is that many R40's (like my 2896-72U model) use the same motherboard chipset as a number of T30 series boards. There have been many posts here about T30 users running with 2 gig of ram onboard even though the stated limit was 1 gig.
You can find the chipset your machine uses pretty easily with a tool like PC Wizard 2005. The chipset my R40 has is the Intel i845MP. I've been running 2 gig of ram in my R40 for almost a year and it officially states it supports only 1 gig of ram...A friend also has an R40 model 2681-something that officially supports 1 gig and he is running 1.5 gig on a motherboard with the same chipset.

I've not seen any posts or other information about going above 1 gb ram in a T23, sorry. If it is possible, I'm not aware of it.

Thanks Wolfman.
I downloaded PC Wizard 2005 and indeed it says I do have that Intel i845MP chip set. I don't feel any need to go beyond what I have now but it's good to know I can go up to 2GB.

I just upgraded to 1GB (from 768MB) and I do feel the computer works smoother while using Autocad 2006 and Photoshop, web browsing, some gaming (blame BF2 :lol)
So 1GB will be the default for me now, and when Vista arrives
