Finally Got an X41

#1 Post by Orbitz » Tue Sep 13, 2005 10:32 pm

Well...ran into a guy locally that had one for sale...1.5 / 512 / 60GB...and bluetooth onboard :) So far, I am very very happy with this machine versus my X40 1.1 / 756 / 20 GB. Boot time seems to be much faster for some reason and operation wise it is like a different class machine...I haven't yet run them side by side to directly compare times for different things but it is MUCH more responsive and snappy so far. Of course there is a huge differnce in proc between the two but I really wasn't expecting the increased in speed to be soooo noticeable real world wise. Screen, fit, finish etc. all seems to be exactly on par with the X40...holding one in each hand I can tell the weight difference but just barely. On the 8 cell with screen at max brightness...it reads 3:58 min on a full charge...not to bad.

I can say with no hesitation that so far this IS the perfect machine for me...absolutely impressed. Also, in case anyone is playing around with games...I did try one so far and side by side it was a pretty big difference...I get a little better performance on the 41 in 1024 x 768 then on the 40 in 800 x 600...again a very nice surprise since I haven't had anything with 915 in it yet.

There has to be a downside tho...my wife asked how much it cost and when I explained that it was a little less then our mortage payment she wasn't amused

Placed my order today. Time to play the waiting game.

Looks like Lenovo estimates the turnaround to be two weeks, but from the estimates I've seen so far I'm not too optimistic about it. I guess I can hope that the long waits are only for the T43s and the X41Ts.

How does the fan behave? Always on (probably with low RPM) or only with CPU load?

I haven't used it that much yet and I don't use any processor intensive apps. but my machine has been pretty quiet as far as the fan goes. I noticed the HD clicking but it doesn't seem to be as loud as I thought it would be.

I really haven't noticed any clicking at all....the fan does run once in a while but seems very quiet to me...tho I am not terribly picky about fan noise.
