is this normal??

#1 Post by Dragonfly79 » Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:17 am

I don't know if I have a problem or not. My T-42p starts up and seem to go sluggish. I use the CTRL Shift ESC to check out the task manager and performance and I see that there are about 47 processes going on at startup. I have edited the startup programs and taken out the unecessary ones. But the CPU usage is at 100%. I have 1 gig ram and my page file is only 247mb. Then after all the programs have started my CPU usage cycles between 0-100% and the graph shows a up and down usage althought the computer is completely idle with no programs running. I do not have norton AV running, just the AVG running in the background. Just for comparison, my PC which is running AMD athlon 3200 with 512 ram and win xp home never goes above 10% at idle. Can someone tell me what's going on? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You may have a trojan or spyware running. Check over at your processes tab and see which processes are using most cpu and memory. When you click on the column header, it sorts it by that column. Also download "Process Explorer" and see which processes are from unknown source.

It might also be wise for you to run through the malware removal procedures outlined at http://www.net-integration.net/tutorials.html.
